With a designer’s eye and childlike spirit, Hedy Goldsmith creates sweets that are as playful as they are serious works of art, layered with straightforward flavors, textures and techniques. When speaking about can’t miss Desserts, no other name in the region elicits a more passionate response than that of Goldsmith, recognized as a 2012 and 2013 finalist for outstanding pastry chef by the James Beard Foundation. Her creations grace the menus of The Genuine Hospitality Group of restaurants including Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in Miami and Grand Cayman, Harry’s Pizzeria in Miami, and the Cypress Room.

In Goldsmith’s first cookbook, BAKING OUT LOUD: Fun Desserts with Big Flavors (Clarkson Potter,) Goldsmith offers the recipes to her most beloved desserts like tangerine cremsicle pots de crème, buttered popcorn gelato, chocolate bourbon fudge tart and basil panna cotta, as well as playful riffs on childhood favorites like signature Pop Tarts, Snickers, Milk Chocolate Candy Bar, Nutters and O’s enjoyed at Genuine’s now legendary sunday brunch.

The media’s hunger for Goldsmith and her desserts is insatiable, with coverage on NBC’s TODAY SHOW, Food Network, and recipes in People magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Food & Wine, The New York Times, Bon Appétit, The New York Post, and more, as well as regular contributions to Cooking Channel’s Unique Sweets, foodnetwork.com’s Dish blog and seasonal recipes on cookingchannel.com. Since James Beard Award wining chef Michael Schwartz opened Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in 2007, Goldsmith’s perfectly sweet match to his restaurant’s fresh, simple and pure cuisine has made it shine, contributing to The New York Times recognizing the flagship as the fourth best new restaurant in the country.

“My whole life has influenced the desserts that I make, and those early salty-sweet memories and big flavors still shape my palate.”

Goldsmith lends her time and support to a number of causes dear to heart like Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in the fight against childhood cancer. Goldsmith holds a B.A. in Photography and Film from the Philadelphia College of Art and graduated with honors from the Culinary Institute of America’s Baking & Pastry Program in New York. She currently resides in Coral Gables, Florida with her partner and their two shih tzu’s, Sweetpea & Cooper.  Connect with her online at hedygoldsmith.tumblr.com and follow her on Twitter @hedygoldsmith.
